Eager to cross gift shopping off your to-to list? Read this before you go-- it could save your holiday!

‘Tis the season of…burglaries?  It’s unfortunate, but with along with every holiday season comes its fair share of Grinches.  More people out shopping means more merchandise and money floating around, which results in an increase in crime rates.  Remember these simple tips:
#1. Before you shop:
-If you must shop at night, park in a well-lit area.  Higher visibility automatically means a low chance that a burglar will approach you or your vehicle.
#2. While you shop:
-As you shop, put your smaller bags inside the larger ones.  Consolidating your items makes it appear that you have less to steal.  If you make a pit stop at your vehicle to lighten your load, be sure to hide your purchases in your trunk or somewhere else with little or no visibility to pedestrians.

#3. After you shop:
-When you’re finished with the hustle and bustle:
Where are your keys?  Locate them before you even step outside.  Having your keys in hand means you will be able to load your purchases right away, instead of trying to locate them in your pockets or purse.
If you’re stressed, distracted, or careless (and many of us are this time of year!) it means you’re an easy target for thieves.   Remember, a distracted shopper is a targeted shopper!  Stay alert, stay observant, and stay safe this holiday shopping season.  How will you plan ahead?  Weigh in by visiting us on Facebook and Twitter!
