Cadillac XTS Designers Inspired By Chrome Use in Luxury Watches

In designing the interior of the Cadillac XTS, designers looked to the use of metal finishes and styling cues of luxury watches for inspiration and in doing so utilized two different chrome finishes in the cabin of the full-size Cadillac sedan. These include satin-finished chrome accents and polished chrome elements.

The satin chrome elements adorn larger elements in the car, such as along the door sills and the instrument panel, creating a warmer and more inviting interior that contrasts with other finishes such as wood and leather. The smaller bits are finished in polished chrome, and contrast with the larger satin-finished chrome pieces.

“The luxury watch industry plays with many metal finishes in its designs,” said lead creative designer Marie-Camille LeCoq, who helped execute the interior of the XTS. “They play with matte, satin, bright chrome and aluminum in beautiful ways, so it was natural to draw influence in a way that extends into the Cadillac XTS the look and feel of the objects consumers interact with in their everyday lives.” In fact, designers were inspired by many non-automotive industries in selecting materials for the cabin of the XTS.
